At first, I was a bit skeptical about whether this book would be right for my daughter and me, since we don’t read much fantasy. But I was quickly proven wrong! The story of Malina is beautifully told—starting with elves and unicorns, it later gets a bit “spookier” with the Pestidos and the Zirnesten. In many chapters, you recognize yourself or your immediate surroundings, which always follow a “set pattern” without ever pausing to reflect or question things a bit more. As an adult, I could really relate to the Zirnesten. Don’t we all have some little evil creatures that drain our energy every day? It definitely gives you food for thought.
